1. Chicago Cubs outfielder Andre Dawson on being a role model:

2. New Orleans Saint RB George Rogers when asked about the upcoming season:
"I want to rush for 1,000 or 1,500 yards, whichever comes first." 

3. And, upon hearing Joe Jacobi of the 'Skin's say:
"I'd run over my own mother to win the Super Bowl,"
Matt Millen of the Raiders said: "To win, I'd run over Joe's Mom, too."

4. Torrin Polk, University of Houston receiver, on his coach, John Jenkins:
"He treat us like mens. He let us wear earrings."  

5. Football commentator and former player Joe Theismann:
"Nobody in football should be called a genius. A genius is a guy like Norman Einstein."  

6. Senior basketball player at the University of Pittsburgh :
"I'm going to graduate on time, no matter how long it takes.."
(Now that is beautiful)  

7. Bill Peterson, a Florida State football coach:

He said, 'Coach, I don't know and I don't care.''    

13. Shelby Metcalf, basketball coach at Texas A&M, recounting what he told a player who received four F's and one D:
"Son, looks to me like you're spending too much time on one subject."    

14. In the words of NC State great Charles Shackelford:

15. Baseball player Ricky Henderson was given a million dollar check as a signing or incentive bonus. When the check had not cleared in several weeks, the Oakland A’s asked him about it. 

He told them he had framed it and it was on a wall in his house.

The wall on the southern border could work both ways. The outlaws in the western movies I watched as a kid always seemed to head for Mexico to evade capture by pursuing lawmen.

I found this tale while doing research for a new novel:

“This match-making mania of the Empress sometimes led to very awkward consequences.

Among others, she brought about a marriage between another of the Esterhazys the good-natured Count Francis and a very beautiful but very vicious young lady of the house of Starhemberg; who soon after her marriage ran away to Switzerland with a most interesting lady-killer, Count Schulemburg. The gentleman, having been claimed by the Austrian charge d'affaires, was given up by the Swiss, and condemned to death as a seducer and adulterer. But, wonderful to relate, the injured husband himself was foremost in obtaining his release; and was most profuse in his expressions of gratitude towards Schulemburg, for having rid him of a bad woman.”

The following is a passage from Deliver us from Evil written by Dr. Tom Dooley and published in 1956 following his involvement in Operation Passage to Freedom wherein hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees were transported from North Vietnam to South Vietnam to escape the horrors of communist rule.

of Vinh-Long, who was in Saigon, paid a visit to our

ship. He is the brother of the defiant Prime Minister, Ngo

Anyone who thinks U.S. was wrong fighting communism in Vietnam should read Dr. Dooley’s book.
